xTechScalable AI offers up to $370K in cash prizes and $8M in follow-on contract awards

The U.S. Army xTech Program, led by the Assistant Secretary of the Army for Acquisition, Logistics and Technology, has launched xTechScalable AI, a competition focused on uncovering novel and disruptive technologies from industry. Through xTechScalable AI, the Army seeks to better understand the spectrum of “world-class” commercial solutions that could enhance the Department of Defense’s security capabilities in the artificial intelligence and machine learning space.
The competition will integrate participating small U.S.-based and nontraditional businesses into the DoD’s science and technology ecosystem — funding up to $370,000 in cash prizes and $8 million in follow-on Army Small Business Innovation Research contract awards.
xTechScalable AI core needs
- Systematic testing and evaluation methods that assess AI-based security systems’ defense capabilities.
- Trusted and secure validation strategies that ensure training data is accurate.
- Continuous monitoring capabilities that can secure the development of models throughout the ML lifecycle.
- Greater transparency through code, data, labels and labeling process assurance.
- Improved telemetry capabilities that can observe and track data within individual modules of an ML pipeline.
- Comprehensive solutions to address adversarial AI attacks and cyber defense threats, including attacks on model inference, stolen model attacks, vulnerable tools, wasting computational resources and exposing sensitive data.
Selected participants will receive feedback on their submissions from Army and DoD stakeholders. As they progress through xTechScalable AI’s three rounds, the Army will provide firms insight about how they can align their solutions with real Army users and buyers. Finalists will receive an invitation to conduct an in-person pitch and demonstration of their solutions to a live audience at the 2024 South by Southwest Conference in March 2024.
